Is it must to know the local
language?
No it is not must to know the local language but is
effective and interesting to work in the project with
basic knowledge of the local language. How ever on arrival
orientation includes language also. You can manage with
English.
Do I get orientation on arrival?
Yes, definitely you will have orientation on arrival.
It includes dos and don’t’ s in the project
and host families. Language, exposure to India culture
and traditions. Traveling tips etc.
Will some body receive me at
the airport?
Yes, one of our staff or co-workers meets you at the
airport with placard of the organizations. Correct information
about your travel details helps us to meet at the airport,
including flight number, name, departure, arrival. (
Both international and domestic)
Will some one accompany me and
introduce to the project?
Yes, after the orientation one of our staff or coworkers
accompanies you to reach the project and introduce the
contact person in the project / host family.
Can I extend programme?
Yes, you can extend the programme but informing the
office well in advance is appreciated, so as to organize
a better programme for you.
Group of friends or family members
can participate in the programme!
Yes, you can plan the programme with your friends or
family members. Of course here you make new friends
and get in contact families.
What type food, I get?
Basically, you are placed in south India. And major
food item is rice and with variety of taste in curries.
Three meals a day includes with breakfast, lunch and
dinner with tea or coffee in the morning and in the
evening.
When should I pay the participation
fee?
You have to make the participation on the first day
of the arrival in Euro as applicable.
How do, I travel alone, Is traveling in India
safe?
It is not advisable to travel alone in India but you
have extra careful, if you are alone. Better to accompany
with other volunteers.
Do I have opportunity to meet
other volunteers?
It depends on the time of your arrival. If there are
other volunteers in India during the same time of your
participation, you will have chance to meet them.
Can I get opportunity to a village
exposure?
Yes, as part of our programme two days village exposure
is organized for the volunteers, who work in cities
or towns
What type of clothing is better?
In Indian culture woman covers the complete legs and
arms. In India you get ready made clothe for Rs. 300
to 500 ( less than 7 Euros). Jeans and T Shirts are
also Ok. To identify with local people and culture local
dresses are appreciated.
How do I have access to internet / money transfer?
In most of the towns and cities Internet and money transfer
facilities are available.
( About Rs.15 to 20 for an hour to browse at Internet
cafes)
Will I have chance to learn
Yoga, India dance, culinary etc?
Yes, definitely, if you are interested to learn Yoga,
Meditation, cooking can be organized at additional cost.
How well in advance I have to
send my application?
We appreciate at least one month in advance but we do
accept the applications less than a month to provide
an opportunity to join the programme.
Will I get the participation
certificate?
Yes, at the end of the programme, you will get the participation
certificate with description about your voluntary work
in India.
Will I get the project of preference?
Yes, you are expected to choose three projects from
our work placements on priority wise. Depending on the
availability and skills you have a suitable project
will be offered.
Can I travel during week ends?
Yes, you have to be in the project from Monday to Friday.
Saturday and Sunday is your time. You can plan to travel
on Friday night and return latest by Monday morning
to go to the project. The cost of traveling and other
expenses will not be borne by ICA – India.
How your participation fee is
utilized?
1. Towards the communication and correspondence with
national and international organizations for the coordination
of the programme.
2. Office maintenance includes staff salary, telephone,
fax, Internet, administrative expenses etc
3. Towards the food, accommodation, local conveyance,
airport transfer of the volunteers.
4. As the organization not funded by any government
or agency, dependent on the participation fee of the
volunteers.
5. Part of the fee goes towards the welfare activities
of the underprivileged visually impaired (Blind).
6. to identify, visit and confirm the new projects and
host families. Regular contact with project and host
family.
7. Language course / orientation expenses.
8. Village exposure visits. Local sight seeing / Cultural
exposure.
9. Fees to resource persons for language and other seminars.
10. Production of training materials.
11. Maintenance of Computers and other office equipment.
